Wow! So after two false alarms we were nervously excited when Shannon's water broke. I mean when your water breaks its pretty hard to mistake it for anything else but after two previous trips to the emergency room only to be sent home, we were getting a little gun shy.

Shannon had been out of work and essentially in a state of static labor for 20 days. We were both being worn out by the physical demands and the anticipation; so of course an overnight delivery was exactly what we needed.

With Graham there were no signs of labor until Shannon's water broke and then Graham was born three hours later. With baby #2 things couldn't have been more different....at least Shannon got an epidural this time.

There is a local gymnastics club that opens up its gym for free play once a week. Graham loves it and he is getting quite daring, jumping into the foam pit by himself. Here are some videos from a few trips when we first started. I will post others showing his progress.

We are back!- First Haircut

So after three and a half months of being away we are finally back to blogging. Enough wasting time...let's catch up!

Graham's First Haircut- Mid-January I was no longer able to delay Shannon's demands for a haircut for Graham and the removal of his baby mullet. Not the stories of mythological heroes nor the pleading of the imminent return of the 80's or even the fact that Graham is half Canadian and that it was part of his national identity would change her mind. Sorry Graham, Daddy tried!

Everyone was pretty amazed at how good he was for the haircut....obviously he was not aware of the implications.

Funny enough we didn't even take an immediate "after" shot.

Graham is learning so many new tricks. He tries to sing along when we sing to him and he replicates hand gestures when we sing "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider" and "The Wheels on the Bus". Here Graham shows that he can blow bubbles. It's not his best example and it is a few weeks but you get the idea.

Trip to Canada

Back in July we took a trip to Canada. It was Graham's first trip to mommy's motherland. By the end of the trip he was drinking Molson, playing hockey and adding "eh" to the end of every sentence.

These first pictures are from our visit to the Pincock Family cabin in Manitoba- think "The Village" meets "The Swiss Family Robinson" - it was awesome!

Breaking bread Canada style....yeah, it's pretty much the same as in the States.

For Shannon's first Mother's Day Graham started a tradition where every year he is going to add some decorations to the pot and then plant a new flower with mommy to symbolize the life that she gave him. We love you mommy and we hope this pot makes it to next year!

Graham has been standing on his own to some degree for a while. But just this past week he has been able to transition from the ground/sitting to standing without using anything to pull/push himself up. Since he realized that he could do this he started to do it constantly.

Catch Up, Part 2: Asheboro Zoo

Wow! Who knew in the middle of North Carolina you would find a top notch zoo? I mean a really great zoo with large exhibits that were both animal and spectator friendly. Most of the exhibits looked very natural and many of them featured different animals living together such as zebras and giraffes. We went in early May and we can't wait to go back!

There was an Africa safari exhibit that must have been a couple hundred acres with elephants, zebras, rhinos, antelope... so cool!

Catch Up, Part 1: Pincock Visit

There are so many events that we haven't posted for going as far back as April. I am going to try to catch up this weekend!

In April Kerry and Grandma Pincock came to North Carolina to their new nephew and grandson. We had a great time at the beach catching rays and dipping our toes in the still chilly water.

Mom and Dad were running late on errands today...Graham didn't feel like waiting for a properly served lunch.

Graham is such a BIG boy eater these days:

He no longer will eat baby food and hates to be fed
He LOVES blueberries!! We have made the mistake of giving them to him at the beginning of a meal and then he won't eat anything else! He LOVES blueberries!
He also takes after his Mom and Dad in that he loves tomatoes and mozzarella salads!
He is also very adventurous with a strong international taste...he loves Greek, Thai, Mediterranean/Lebanese. It is great watching him eat hummus or Pad Thai.
He also LOVES peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!
He is starting to take a little whole milk with his formula.

He also has been developing quite a bit:

As previously shown he has started walking! Even left on his own he will initiate a walk in his crib and walk/run from one end to the other.
He is sooo strong! He has been nicknamed Hercules by his teachers and sometimes they have to send him to an older class because he gets too rough...Daddy is so proud!
He loves wrestling Madawi and Madawi is such a good playmate. Madawi recognizes that Graham is a little stronger and tougher than before and she is starting to push back just a little bit...best buddies!
He LOVES to play with cars and balls...how is it that boys just know this stuff? He will push a ball or car across the floor and then chase after it.

Trip to Asheville, NC- Part 1

Last month we went to the mountains in Asheville, NC for a long weekend for Shannon's birthday. It was a great weekend and I really need to catch up on some blogging.

For Shannon's birthday I got this great backpacking pack for carrying Graham! No backpacking on this trip but this was just a warm up trip. We will do some backpacking before Graham turns one.

We paid a visit to the Biltmore mansion. It was such an amazing estate...we spent several hours there, including a lot of hiking, and we can't wait to our next visit.

Sitting Like a Big Boy

Ugh! I am so delinquent in blogging!! And so much has happened! A weekend trip to Asheville, a visit by Kerry and Grandma Pincock, getting in trouble for wrestling other kids at school, a couple of trips to the beach, and so much growing!!

Some new BIG boy tricks:

As you can see above Graham is now rocking a big boy car seat. Just installed it last night and he loves it. I think its more comfy than the last one.
Crawling 2.1- it's legit! He is everywhere. We are doing some serious baby proofing this weekend.
Two-piece pajamas- Who knew that jumpers are only made up to 12 months...at least that's all we can find for him and those are getting snug. His Auntie Kerry bought him his first set of two piece PJs; Shannon cried.
Resisting being fed- Ugh! He is constantly trying to pull the spoon away and feed himself. It doesn't need to be said that feeding time is getting messy. He loves to eat whatever we eat- chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, BBQ ribs (picture soon)!
Swimming- We are taking him to our gym and he loves to "swim" with Mom and Dad. He even doesn't mind being dunked!
Clapping and waving- he is picking up on emotions and some social ques. He claps, waves and reacts ENTHUSIASTICALLY when he recognizes someone.
Today's stats: 22lbs, 29 inches, 4 teeth

Wow! Sooooo far behind in my posting! Soooo many great stories and pictures and videos to share. The weekend after Easter we all went to Asheville, NC to celebrate Shannon's birthday. It was an awesome trip and consequently we have tons of pics and videos that I hope to post over the next several days.

In the meantime I thought I would share some pics from this past weekend. There was a birthday party from Shannon's work / Graham's school. Well, one of the teachers decided to give Graham some cake. We almost never give Graham anything that is pure sugar and on the rare occasion it is always just a taste...well not this time...but not by our doing! Wasn't pleased at first but it sure was funny!

Here he is just after discovering the tasty cake. Notice the dexterity, the utilization of bath hands and the clean shirt.

Someone joked that they were going to take the cake away from him...he was not amused!

At this point he was tired of picking at his slice piece by piece and just picked up the whole thing...again notice how clean his shirt is even at this point.

Well, Crawling 1.0 (beta) started a week or two ago. It looked more like a Marine Corps inspired low crawl. Today he showed us he could use his knees. Crawling 1.5 looks a little like a hobbit or monkey as he gives himself a little extra push with his feet. Oh boy!

Before I got back from Norfolk Shannon , Graham, Leigh, Kaden, Connor and Madawi had a chance to enjoy the fruits of the major east coast snow storms.

Dad is Back!

I was playing navy in Norfolk, Va for 10 days and I sure did miss Shannon, Graham and Madawi! When I got back I sure was surprised to see how much had changed! Even in those 10 days there were some very obvious changes and some new accomplishments:

Now holds his bottle pretty easily and will feed himself for most of the bottle.
More hair...and it's starting to get a little darker.
Teeth are more visible. He had his two bottom teeth pop out maybe two weeks ago but now they are a lot easier to see.
Sustained sitting- he is sitting and playing with his toys for 30 minutes or more. He is starting to entertain himself a little more...which is nice.
Personality keeps developing- he is very smiley right now and loves to laugh. Even when he is winy we can get him to smile.
Sleeping soundly- we had a little set back when he had a cold and fever and we found him in our bed more than we liked. Shannon has him back into a solid routine and he now sleeps from about 7:30pm to about 6:30am
FINGER FOODS!- Graham has started eating little rice puffs! He grabs them off of his tray and sticks them in his mouth on his own. He gets every third one in his mouth or so...its amazing how they go from milk/formula/food with no chewing to just knowing that they have to chew.

Graham is such a great eater! We haven't found a food that he doesn't like. His favorites seem to be carrots, green beans and sweet potatoes. He also eats apples, peaches, apricots, pears, green peas, berries, bananas.

What's funny is that he will get through almost his entire meal without so much as a smudge of food on his face or bib; but then, over the last five bites he will start grabbing for the spoon and bowl and then start rubbing his face. By the end of those last five bites it is pretty certain that he will need a bath to get the food out of his eye brows and ears and from underneath his chin.

We haven't tried the pureed meats yet; we're afraid of what it will do to his diapers.

Okay, so its been a month since we posted. December was a heck of a month with work, travel, class, finals and Christmas. Anyway, time to catch up.

International Baby of Mystery!

The last two days of the trip we ran out of the formula that we brought from the States. Thanks to supreme international savy we were able to locate some of the local variety...fortunately Montezuma didn't take revenge.

More exploring....what a great trip. We can't wait to go back!

Cancun, Mexico- International Baby of Mystery, Part 1

Last week was a week full of firsts for Graham....and none of them were his first Thanksgiving. Fact is we really didn't really celebrate Thanksgiving. Instead we celebrated with Shannon's sister's wedding in Mexico. Kerry Pincock and Ben King decided to get married in Cancun and we all spent a week basking in the Mexican sun.

Here is Graham and Shannon on Graham's first flight. He was amazing. He ate during take off and landing so there were no pressurization issues. The rest of the time he pretty much slept.

We went to an all-inclusive resort just over an hour outside of Cancun. It was called the Grand Sirenis and it was fantastic! Highly recommended. Here is Graham dipping his toes at the beach at the resort....

Another first for Graham was his first taste of something other than boobies or formula. First official real food: BANANA

Jumping death spiders and flying piranhas? That's not enough to keep Graham from his first trek through the jungle!

Graham is such the explorer...not being content in the confines of our resort he took us out to hang out at some ancient Mayan ruins...his first ancient Mayan ruins expedition!

Marathon and the Thompsons and Harringtons

Two weeks ago we went up to Washington, D.C. for the Marine Corps Marathon. I was running it with Dave Harrington so we got to meet up with the Harrington family and meet Graham Harrington. Graham H. was born four days after Graham Pardo. While with the Harringtons we refer to them as G1 (G. Pardo) and G2 (G. Harrington).

While there we also got to meet up with the Thompsons, my sponsor family from the Naval Academy. This was the first time getting to meet their "grandson".

First Camping Trip!

Oh, about three weeks ago we took Graham on his first camping trip. Nothing too hardcore- we'll save backpacking at altitude for next summer; just some relaxing car camping. Of course we had to take Madawi and we also got to hang out with Leigh, Kaden and Connor. Sorry for the delay; enjoy the pics!

Last weekend we went on Graham's first trip to the pumpkin patch near Raleigh. Graham got to dress up in his first costumes, play in a tub of corn, go on a giant slide and play with the pumpkins. Here are some pics.

Here are some recent and not so recent pics...

Shannon and Graham and the first family run. Notice the towel dumpers and the chest straps that cross the chest instead of dropping straight down. Graham might be a little young but Daddy believes in ingenuity...and sucking it up! Someone get me a kettle bell!

Here is from Auntie Kerry's visit. This was Graham's first almost-full immersion (no head dunking) in the ocean. He didn't like it at first (not as warm as his baths) but after a few seconds he was just happy as ever. We actually have a video of this but Shannon would kill me if I posted it as it shows her in her bathing suit...she's crazy!
